A Commitment to Excellence
As a jet fighter squadron commander Lieutenant Colonel Albert J. Amatuzio had ample opportunity to witness synthetic oil in action. Synthetic oils are used exclusively in jet engines because of three extraordinary performance characteristics: an ability to reduce friction and wear on engine components, an ability to function dependably at severe temperature extremes and an ability to withstand rigorous and lengthy engine operation without chemical breakdown.
Recognizing that these same benefits would prove invaluable in combustion engines, Amatuzio began conducting serious research in 1963. By 1966 he had formulated a synthetic motor oil and put it to use in vehicles in northern Minnesota. Throughout the late ’60s Amatuzio continued his research and development and sold commercially available synthetic oil under a variety of names. In 1970 he incorporated his own name into a commercially sold product called AMMOIL. In 1971 this product name was changed to AMZOIL and it continued to be sold commercially. The true milestone came in 1972 when AMZOIL became the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet American Petroleum Institute criteria. The new synthetic motor oil performed like no other before it. When the first can appeared on the market in 1972, it signaled the birth of an entire industry. AMSOIL synthetic motor oil and lubricants have expanded the boundaries of lubrication science and redefined the performance possibilities of modern machinery and engines.
How does MOTOR OIL work?
Lubricate and cool- Generally, when people talk about "MOTOR OIL", they are talking about the motor oil that goes into the crankcase, a special motor oil reservoir, in a four-cycle engine, like the engine in your car. Motor Oil lubricates the engine of a vehicle or piece of equipment and cools a significant portion of the engine.
While the engine is at rest, the motor oil rests in the crankcase, a pan bolted to the bottom of the engine block. When the engine starts, the oil pump feeds oil from the pan to the oil distribution system, a network of passages, tubes, grooves and holes leading to the engine bearings and other surfaces that receive a large volume of pressurized oil for lubrication. Other parts receive oil through splash or spray.
Other Functions- In addition to lubricating and cooling engine parts, motor oil must allow easy engine starting, protect the engine from corrosion and oxidation, keep the engine clean, form a tight seal between piston rings and cylinder walls, and help the engine use fuel efficiently.

AMSOIL EXPOSURE HUGE AT TOP TRUCK CHALLENGE 2010 AMSOIL once again sponsored the Top Truck Challenge event held June 7-11 near Holister Hills, Ca. 10 Vehicles, all heavily modified for extremem off road use and filled with AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants, competed in this years challenge. Five trucks competed in the truck class, while five buggies represented the buggie class. "The response to AMSOIL from everyone involved from Top Truck Challenge 2010 has been amazing," said AMSOIL Technical Product Manager Len Groom, who was on hand to witness the action. "The company is clearly growing on the west coast and in the four-wheeling market." FOUR WHEELER Magazine organizes the week long event, now in it's 18th year. From hundreds of entrants, over 20,000 votes were cast by FOUR WHEELER magazine readers to narrow the field to the Ten participants. They competed in Seven demanding tests, including the frame twister, tow test, mud pit, tank trap, obstacle course, hill climb and mini rubicon. Whoever completes the tests with the best times, or in some cases at all, is crowned Top Truck Challenge Champion. In the truck class, Jason Gray of Amity, Oregon captured the points lead with his 1975 Chevy Blazer, while Mike Karwath of Union, Kentucky and his 2009 Tube Chassis YJ won the buggy class.
